Answer:
Inside Golden Gate Park there is a botanical garden/arboretum. It's a very nice place, and if you go deep inside, it's nice and quiet. Find a nice place to sit (anywhere inside is pretty nice, but I prefer being by the stream) and you won't be disappointed. You'll have a great view of the stream, flowers, grass, and the occasional bird or squirrel. Hope you gave a great picnic!

The western end of the park is usually pretty quiet. The Dutch Garden will be in bloom though, so people will come for that. North Lake is quite natural and tranquil. And there are some quiet meadows near the Beach Chalet and Park Chalet. Tourists like to congregate near the DeYoung Museum, Natural History Museum, Japanese Tea Garden, HIV/AIDS National Memorial Grove, Strybing Arboretum, Stow Lake, and Conservatory of Flowers...which is all at the eastern end of the park. This area is well manicured and attractive, but it's unlikely you'll find much seclusion at all. You might also want to consider Presidio National Park, Lincoln Park, and the Marin Headlands. These are all great places to have a picnic (and much more secluded than Golden Gate Park).

Stow Lake and Strawberry Hill Before heading over to Stow Lake, which surrounds Strawberry Hill, take a rest or have a picnic lunch in a clearing next to the Pioneer Log Cabin. There are tree-trunk benches in an oval area bordered by tall pines. Take a short walk to Stow Lake, where you can rent a boat, or walk over a bridge to Strawberry Hill, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the park. The area is home to turtles, cranes and ducks. If you want a closer look, rent an electric motor boat ($18 per hour), row boat ($11) or pedal boat ($15). Dirt trails follow the curves in the lake, leading over stone bridges and up a steep incline to Strawberry Hill. Bicycles are available for rent, and there is a snack bar nearby. Or try the Lloyd Lake area. Have fun.
