Cheapest Flight/Car Rental Option?

Cheapest car rental option for 2 months in Bay Area?

  • What's the cheapest car rental option for the SF Bay Area, Palo Alto? I will be flying into SFO, but staying in Palo Alto for 10 weeks. Looking for the cheapest car rental availalble, with the most basic insurance and GPS. Compact car. Ideally I want get something from SFO, so I can avoid the hassle of trying to cab it to Palo Alto...but I understand that airport pickups can be more expensive. I tried all the car rental companies, its all about 600-700 per month, 1600-1700 ish for the 10 week duration, including insurance but GPS is extra. Rental location in Palo Alto, so I would have to pay cab fare to and from SFO airport, so another 60x2 = 120 bucks. Of course they allow pickups at SFO as well, but it would be MUCH more expensive (2000+) so not an option. I also tried priceline, about 500 bucks per 28 days (the max they allow you to rent), I have no idea what it includes but i doubt it has GPS or insurance..so that would be extra. Good thing is that pickup's in SFO, so I avoid cab fare. Priceline does not have options for south bay pickups. Also, I would have to return the car to SFO every 28 days for a new contract, a bit of a hassle. Any ideas?? These seems really pricey....would love to get a car for around 400 all inclusive per month, with basic insurance and GPS. Thanks!!

Travelzoo has some pretty great deals. And have you looked into City Car Share? I'll ad a link so you can check it out and see if it can serve some if not all of your needs. Similar to Amsterdam community car rental. Works out to be less than $50 a month with gas ind insurance, not sure about GPS.
