What's the most unpopular major at UC Davis?

UC DAVIS? Whats it like?

  • I'm going to UC Davis on exchange for sociology in August. Anyone have any info about Sacramento or the UC system? Example: Good place to eat, nightlife, shop, reputation of the uni ect. ect. Would love any input!

  • Answer:

Davis is a nice college town. Very green town, and bicycle friendly as the bike to car ratio seems to be 20:1. For burgers, I suggest Redrum Burger on Olive Drive. Sacramento is 20-30 mins. east on I-80, or you can take Amtrak from Davis and it drops you of in downtown Sacramento. UC Davis is a good school for the region, they have their Medical Centre in Sacramento, actually, on Stockton Blvd. I believe we're friendly in Sacramento & Davis. Like anywhere, you might get a couple knuckleheads but generally, Sacramento's a good place for making friends. I'd be careful with that Aussie accent; you might make some of the blokes there catch the vapours, as the Aussie female accent is very hot.. =D

Without the university, Davis is a small town in the middle of an agricultural area. The university dominates the town and the environment. There are lots of eateries and bars as you would expect. Most of the available music, art and culture will be found on campus. The atmosphere is more academic than at other schools: this is not where people go when they are looking for a party school. The University of California is one of the best public university systems in the world. Davis in not as well known as Cal and UCLA because it is not as big. I have no clue whether the sociology program is more highly reputed, Davis is perhaps most famous for it Viticulture Departments influence on California wine production and styles; it is all well known for its School of Agriculture and School of Engineering. There are also many pre-med undergraduates due to its reputation in related sciences. (The pre-med and Engineering programs are very difficult and are what drives the academic atmosphere. These kids just can't afford to party the way others might.) Sacramento is a good 20 minutes drive away. San Francisco is a little more than an hour away. Lake Tahoe, about 2 hours iirc.
