What are good community colleges in San Francisco?

What are some nice colleges in San Francisco and the Bay Area for a B student?

  • I'm graduating community college here in Illinois at the end of the year. I really want to move to San Francisco! I'll have a 3.1 GPA around there. My major is marketing. I looked into San Francisco State, but I don't know if I'll get in as a transfer student. I also looked into San Jose State, but I'd prefer to be in the city of San Francisco. What are some other San Francisco colleges?

  • Answer:

Golden Gate University is great for business programs, located near the financial district. If you go outside San Francisco, there is Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park and Cal State Hayward in the East Bay, both part of the same state college system as San Jose State and S.F. State but I don't know their academic programs.

Your GPA may not get you into Stanford (or it could!), but if you write a killer essay and have a lot of volunteer and community experience, and if the classes you took were more difficult than Basic Math, you definitely have a shot at SFSU. Apply as soon as you can, I hear colleges have waiting lists now.

SFSU, SJSU, and Golden Gate University have good programs. Cal State East Bay is still growing and trying to make a name for itself. No one who goes to Sonoma State gets hired after graduation.

S.F. is not really a college town, it's limited. I'd say San Francisco State University is your best bet. Also: City College of San Francisco, University of San Francisco (USF), and Academy of Art.
