Do people celebrate NYE in Embarcadero in San Francisco?

I'm going to San Francisco for New Year's. What's a hip, down to earth place to celebrate for under 21?

  • So I'm not 21 yet but close - really would like to do something fun for New Year's with a friendly, relaxed crowd of people. Even a concert will do. I will be spending a few days in SF before New Year's and was wondering what sort of places to hit up - I like local art galleries, crafty places (bead and pottery), thrift shops, live music venues that feature good local groups (everything from folk to indie to jazz), cafes, stuff like that. I'd really like to mingle with folks and get to meet some chill people. Not reallly into the club scene - help someone? Can't really afford a $200 cover either.

You could head south of market and check out the avan'gard scene there...or head over to haight/ashbury and check out some of the local artistry....fishermans wharf has alot of local artists selling their wares right out on the sidewalks ...on weekends especially...Union street is an eclectic collection of nuances of the higher caliber/price tag....the palice of fine arts is an exceptional rendition of an era gone by reflecting the pan american exposition and has a hands on science museum called the exploratorium that is a maze of sight, sound and touch......I should give tours in SF..heh..

Pier 39 is about the worst place to go. All tourists and not much fun. I've been living in SF for 5 years. Check out SFStation.com and also the talk threads on Yelp.com in the SF section. You'll definitely find some stuff to do there. A bunch of Yelp people might be organizing a party which I'll probably attend. They are fun people and are usually friendly and open minded.
