What is the commute like from South San Jose to San Francisco?

  • Hey all! I am thinking of moving from Los Angeles to San Francisco and want to know what a commute is like from San Jose to San Francisco. I am from San Jose, so I will move back home until I figure out which areas of SF I really like and would like to live in. If anyone does this commute please let me know if Bart or Cal-Train is better and how long it takes. Thanks! Also any advice on the city would be great too.

    In Sanfrancisco it all depends on how much you can afford. Noe Valley (yuppy families), North Beach (beautiful Italian district), South of Market (fabulous affluent gay district) are the top notch areas. If you're a hip-hop kinda gal and love culture, the "Mission" is the BEST! My personal fave is Guererro St, Valencia St., and Mission St.. There are schnazzy bars & restaurants, brazilian influence along with all the Latin cultures from everywhere. Cal Train is faster than Bart. The price is about the same. Commuting from SF to SJ should take about an hour. If you have a car it's just about 45 minutes. Cheers & Good Luck P.S. Get a roommate. Studios start at $1700.! No joke! p.s.s. Not sure where you will live in SJ but do whatever to get to 280 for your commute. Plan on an hour to an hour and a half during rush hour. SF has plenty of diverse neighborhoods, you will need to do some exploring.

Bring lots of $. There is an express cal train from SJ to SF but you may have to connect to it from South SJ. Bart only goes to SF Airport which is about 40 mins north of San Jose. Good luck
