How do you start homeschool in California?

I'm getting ready to finish college and I want to move to California. Where do I start?

  • Greetings. I'm getting ready to finish college with a degree in sales. I really want to move from Florida to California for lots of reasons. Where do I begin? I already have a car that's all paid for. I've got car insurance and a license. I'll need a place to stay and a job. Where do i search for jobs and apartments in the San Francisco bay area? Question about driver's license: will I need to get a new one upon moving to California? I see mine is for Florida so I presume every state has their own. Will I need to take the test again or will they just transfer the info to a new California license? In regards to a job, I work at a Subway here in Florida. I'm thinking if I could transfer to a Subway over in California until I can get myself a real job. I basically just want to start over with a clean slate. I haven't committed a crime or anything, but I like the idea of starting over someplace new and I've been looking at San Francisco for a long time. I've heard it's expensive, but I just need something basic until I get settled in.

  • Answer:

I suggest staying in a suburb of San Francisco. You can always take a commuter train in to see the city. On the salary of a fast food joint you would not be able to afford an apartment. Single rooms for rent cost $700 a month in most areas. I dont know if San Francisco is right for you. The ocean is too cold to swim in, not like Florida, everything costs much more like food and gasoline and we have a 9.6% sales tax. Auto insurance is more expensive. Florida is cheap compared to California. You may prefer somewhere in Southern Calif but it is also costly. If you can stand hot temperatures and being away from the ocean you can go to the northern rural counties or central valley of Calif. to live cheaply. Maybe you can get an agricultural job there. Unemployment is 20% in those areas and 12% in the cities. We have the second highest unemployment after Nevada.

The Bay is one of the more expensive places to live in statewide, you will have a hard time to get a place on your own with Subway wage. Most of me people that work in the city live outside like the East Bay and do the daily commute, that's probably what you'll end up doing at least for the first few years. I highly suggest you stay in Florida for a little bit longer to gain experience that goes with that degree you'll be getting. That way you'll be able to find a job because even though they are hiring, competition for jobs is stiff due to the economical mess we are in. Anyway when you get here you'll need to replace your driver's license, register your car and update your insurance- you'll be paying higher. Good luck.
