How do I write a visa invitation letter?

  • I need to write an invitation letter to invite my mom to come visit me in the US so that the US embassy would give my mom a visa. How should I write this letter? What should I address? Do I address the letter to the embassy or to my mom? Does it need to be hand written?

    This is a very basic letter...done it numerous times. The letter should be addressed to your Mom. example: Sept 7 2006 Peggy Sue Smith 123 Main St. Timbuktu Somewhere in Africa Dear Peggy Sue, I'd like to take this opp to invite you to visit me in Chicago. Looking forward to seeing you soon. Rgds, your fav. daughter. I've only ever done these letters for business matters so it's a bit formal, but there it is. It has to be real basic, address it to your mom, invite her to visit and yes it could be typed, although we always sign them as well. I don't know what exceptions there are, but sometimes they also ask for info on where the person will stay, typically a hotel confirmation notice will do, but in your case you may just want to add a sentence about welcoming her to stay at your house...

yeah i agree with the other poster. but be aware they might actually ask you about your funds as well (sometimes they as for bank statments). my wife has done this 4 times for her relatives (mom as well as dad) for family members from russia. if you are dealing with the russia. let me know and i'll give you inside info on what they expect. they aren't easy to deal with let me tell you that!
