What are the best places to watch 4th of July fireworks in San Francisco?
-
I'm interested mostly in places in San Francisco but other Bay Area locations are okay too. I'd like the top places (besides Pier 39), why they're great, and whether or not they usually have fog. Thanks!

Answer:
From the top of Twin Peaks, you can see the fireworks at Embarcadero. The crowds are too much if you go right down to the water's edge. Jack London Square in Oakland also has a fireworks display. I doubt there will be fog this year, but you never know. The weather has been unseasonably warm so far.

From fisherman's wharf. They put the fireworks out on 3-4 barges on the bay and light up the whole bay. Watching from Girradelli plaza- sitting on the grass in front is another good spot. The ISSUE is, sometimes it gets very foggy and you can see much no matter where you are. So pray for no fog and you will get a great show anywhere along the bay.

The absolute best place to see The 4th of July fireworks in San Francisco is on the deck of the Blue and Gold Ferry in the middle of the bay.

A good place to see the San Francisco fireworks is from across the bay - at the decks adjacent to Chevy's in Emeryville (you also can see Berkeley's from the same vantage point).

Outside San Francisco, the best place would probably be the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View. They have San Francisco Symphony Orchestra playing before the firework and even more interesting, during the firework to pace with the firing of firework. The crowd afterwards is not as bad as San Francisco. If you like to listen to more classical-like music, this would be the best choice. Also, firework will be played in Greater America in Santa Clara. Combining it with a day of fun in the amusement park would be another way to spend the day.

Personally, I think the best place to see the fireworks on the 4th of July in San Francisco is from Chrissy Field on the Presidio. It's right on the water and you can get a seat (if your there early enough) snuggle under the blanket and watch the fireworks. Another good place is if you can afford it, on the bay on the boat. Be prepared to freeze if you dont have a blanket. The winds on the bay can be very cold.

The Embarcadero close to Folsom I hear that is a nice spot but expect a great deal of people. Also Aquatic Park

IN san francisco I would have to say the fisherman's warf area, usually one of the piers down there is best so you can see the sf ones nice and close and also look out and see some of the others, like Berkeley. Personally I like the east bay for fireworks. If you find a good hill you can see all the different displays at once in sort of a panoramic view-type scene. Very cool.
