What is there to do for the 4th of July in San Francisco?

I'm going to San Francisco for the first time from July 4th to July 7th. What are some things I can do?

  • I'll be staying at the Westin St.Francis hotel in Union Square. What are some things I can do and what is the best way to get there from the hotel? Also, will there be fireworks display in Union Square on July 4th? I know this is a lot of questions but I would really appreciate it if someone could answer them. Thank you.

You can use public transportation to get just about everywhere in San Francisco. If you visit the AC Transit website you can map out how to get to all your destinations. You should definitely visit Pier 39. There are a lot of tourist attractions there, and a lot of nice places to eat. There's the Rain Forest Cafe, and there's locally prepared seafood. You can take a boat out to visit Alcatraz from the Pier also. If you've never been to San Francisco then you want to check out China Town and the Zagat rated Dim Sum place on Jackson, Called Great Eastern Restaurant. If you're not looking for a large meal you can check out one of the bakeries right next to that restaurant. They have excellent pork buns. If you are looking for some time on the beach, I really like Ocean Beach, just know that its usually crowded and traffic can be a bit irritating, but there is a bus that goes straight to the beach (also Golden Gate Park is nearby!). There definitely will be fireworks at Union Square, of course you can always call your hotel to confirm. The fireworks are great to watch from the city. Anyways I hope this was helpful, and have fun when you're here :) P.S. Ask your hotel about the art museums, some of them are free! Also your hotel should know the best place to watch the fireworks from, so ask them, they will be able to give you all the details about July 4th and the parade and stuff! P.S.S. Go to Haight and Ashbury (cool shops and history) and visit the Fisherman's Wharf, you can get the best clam chowder there, and its best if you find some place where they serve it in a bowl of bread. :)

i lived in san francisco about 10 years ago so i'm not so sure on the street locations, but here's my advice!! AVOID the Wharf and Pier 39, as they are both HUGE tourist traps. Go to Georgio's Pizza. Great stuff! Explore China Town, but watch for cars cuz signals are more like guidelines down there. Go to the Nature and Science Museum! They just finished remodeling and everything is brand new! There's not much at Ghiradelli Square or the Cannery anymore, so it's not really worth it in my opinion. Explore Golden Gate Park. It's absolutely beautiful. I'm sure I'll think of more as soon as I post this lol. But that's what I have for now.

go to the Wharf, a San Francisco Giants game, Haight Ashbury, Krissy Feild, Sight Seeing, Alcatraz, Go on the Golden Gate Bridge, eat at restraunts with diffrent cultures, go on a boat around the bay, go on a trolley, and anything that seems fun to you, kid. :)

all time sarah :)

Union Square is a great place to stay. It is a tourist trap, but you still have to go Fisherman's Wharf/Pier 39. What I like to do is take the trolley (which is a classic must) to the Pier. Last time I went to SF, you could get an all day public transportation ticket for like $12 which included the trolley ride. The trolley doesn't hook up exactly to Union Square, but it is nearby. The trolley will take you by Lombard street which you need to see and then drop you at the Pier. Hang out at the Pier for a while (go to alcatraz while you are there) and if it is still light outside by the time you are done, then I suggest hiking it back to Union Square, via Stockton street. It is a walk uphill, but definitely gives you a perspective. You will pass through Little Italy and China Town on your walk. Make sure it is light outside and you don't do it by yourself for security reasons of course. Other things include bike riding across the golden gate bridge, going to go golden gate park, visiting coit tower. You can visit http://www.onlyinsanfrancisco.com/what_to_do/ for more information on what to do and transportation options. Now the fireworks! They are actually shot up over the bay at Pier 39. Apparently there is a huge festival there with live entertainment and such. Probably very crowded, but that is where they are located. You can also ask people at the hotel for more information, insider information, it is their job to know things like that. Have Fun!

well many things u could do. Golden Gate Bridge. Yes they will have a fireworks display at fishermans wharf on July 4. You could go to Twin Peaks Hill and Pier 39. Chinatown,Alcatraz, Cable Cars, Trolleys, etc. DON'T listen to people who say avoid tourist traps 'cause they are so much fun. Possibly a San Francisco Giants game, if you like baseball or the Giants. This is all I know. Hope I Helped. Oh and people aren't gay. People just say that but they've never been there. You'll probably see like 2 or 3 couples that are gay and thats it. And Lombard Street, The Worlds Most Crooked Street in the World P.S. I've been to San Francisco like 10 times. And I live like 30 minutes away.
