Can anyone give me info to some great restaurants and good nightlife spots in San Francisco, California?
-
My girls and I are headed for a weekend getaway in San Francisco. We are staying in the Fisherman's Wharf Area. First time for us 3. We have already booked the Alcatraz Tour (2 1/2 hrs) and the City Trolley Tour (2 1/2 hrs). I know there's Chinatown and many other touristy areas to visit but we wanted to know the names of some good restaurants and nightlife (bars, pubs, clubs). Also want to see some non-touristy areas. Where the locals hangout and eat. Food- we eat all seafood and pretty much anything that's good. No picky girls here. Nightlife- we don't mind taking a taxi to go a bit out of our way to a great spot. Thanks in advance for the suggestions :-)

Answer:
If you are staying in the Wharf Area you are very near North Beach which is a great neighborhood for food an nightlife. Avoid eating at in the wharf area because most of the restaurants are overpriced and offer mediocre food. Nightlife in North Beach Bimbos 365 on Columbus near Taylor - Jazz and Blues night club Grant & Green [at the intersection of those two streets] a hard rockin dive bar with live music The Saloon on Grant near Broadway - One of the best best blues dives in the city. The Purple Onion on Columbus near Jackson - Jazz, Improv, Stand up on different nights. Some of the best restaurants in North Beach are: Café Macaroni – Columbus at Jackson – Wonderful Italian food, casual, fun service. Original Joe's now open at the corner of Union and Stockton – Old fashioned stick to your ribs Italian food. Huge portions! Are good before or after theatre experience. Watch out, the garlic bread is radioactive. Yummy, but you’ll exude garlic for a half life. This is the restaurant that originated the open kitchen concept. Marios Bohemian Cigar Store at Union and Columbus, a good place for lunch, try the meatball sandwich or chicken pannini...mmmmm! Chiaroscuro - 550 Washington across from the Transamerica Building. A quiet intimate room [14 tables] open kitchen, incredible house cured salami, good game a seafood options. When I'm in North Beach and want a slice I usually hit Golden Boy on Green at Columbus. I’ve heard it described as “life changing pizza.” I wouldn’t go that far but it is worth the trip. Foccachia style pizza, the vegie pesto is especially good. My favorite places for seafood are: Tadich Grill 240 California-The Original Cold Day Restaurant: An old boy’s kind of place that has been around since 1849. Great seafood, chops and sourdough. Stiff drinks, no reservations, but counter seats are first come first served. Hays Street Grill 320 Hayes at Gough. Fresh fish shines at this neighborhood favorite. They specialize in grilling fish and then serving it with your choice of sauces that only enhance the taste of the fish and shellfish. For a special occassion visit Farallon on Post between Mason and Powell, a good and expensive seafood restaurant. If you are on a budgert visit for one drink and enjoy the ambiance, like having cocktails in an underwater garden. The new bowling alley near the ballpark is a good place to kill some time. It just opened last Friday, and this is a good review: http://www.clmb.co/soma-bowling-alley-great-for-the-neighborhood-or-a-total-disaster/
