    Trip is at least 9+ hrs eacy way. Amtrak trains don't go to San Francisco, but there is a bus from the station in Emeryville to San Francisco Shopping center. You just search from FUL station to SFS and the bus thing should be part of the itinerary. The trips I am seeing involve taking the bus from Fullerton to Bakersfield (first trip of the day is scheduled for 12:45 am, leaving Fullerton) Then you take the train from Bakersfield to Emeryville and then the bus again from Emeryville to San Francisco. Taking the 12:45am trip from Fullerton will mean that you are scheduled to arrive in San Francisco around 11:30 am. It is the same thing going back. You take the bus from San Francisco back to Emeryville (last bus is scheduled to depart from San Francisco at 4:55pm) then train from Emeryville to Bakersfield and you take the bus back to Fullerton. This trip would make you arrive home after 3:05 am the next day. You have less than 6 hrs and you still need time for getting around, so you dont actually have that mucg time to do more hanging out in SF besides the shopping center.

Since you take the Amtrak bus from Fullerton to Bakersfield and then catch the train to Oakland (Amtrak doesn't go to San Francisco), it's about eleven hours. Then you take BART into the city, which is about another half hour. And that particular route does indeed leave at midnight and you'd arrive in Oakland at 11:00 AM. However, the return train does not leave until at least 6:00 the next morning.
