Which part of San Diego has more jobs?

I love La Jolla, but are there more jobs in Downtown? Trying to decide which part to move that's closer to jobs? My husband is looking for restaurant or retail jobs, and I am looking for sales jobs and recruiter jobs. Have a baby so daycare is also a concern. Any advice is appreciated.

Either one would be a good choice. The area around La Jolla called The Golden Triangle(the area bounded by the 5,805,and 52 freeways) and Sorrento Valley have lots jobs. That area is one of the biggest employment centers in San Diego. There is a large regional mall called University Town Center just east of La Jolla by the 805, so that would be a good place for a retail job. There are a few other shopping centers nearby like Costa Verde and LJ Village Sqaure for more retail. There are some big and nice restaurants too like PF Changs, Donovan's Steak House, Sammy's, Roys, ect... Also downtown La Jolla has many very nice upscale resturants too. My buddy is a corporate recruiter and use to work in an office building in Sorrento Valley doing that job and I think there are other firms around there too. Downtown is also a good place for the same types of jobs you are looking for. There is Horton Plaza mall and a bunch of other retail there. The retail in La Jolla/UTC area is more upscale though. And there are TONS of nice restaurants in the Gaslamp Quarter for your husband to check out. Downtown and the area around La Jolla are the two of the biggest employment centers in SD. I think the La Jolla area is a better area to raise a child since its more family oriented than the areas around downtown. But it's also pricey. Even if you live in La Jolla and end up taking a job downtown, the commute will not be bad. Most heavy traffic is heading towards Sorrento Valley/UTC on I-5 north to all the office parks there. I used to live in UTC and commute downtown for work and there was never any traffic, I-5 south from La Jolla to downtown is free flowing during the morning rush hour. Evenings coming back are heavier though, but not as bad as the other direction.

Tons of restaurants downtown. Have you looked out in Eastlake? The new Otay mall is a winner and lots of shops there.

Tony D is right , lots of new jobs in the eastlake area, but i would recomend asking this question again, give a little more detail on what type of neighborhoods you like, and what type of retail and restaurant experience he has.
