Ucsd in a nutshell ?
-
i really want to go to ucsd for its highly regarded combined bachelors/masters degree in experimental psychology. the problem is, from what ive seen in numerous photo albums on facebook, what ive read on college review forums, and what ive heard from students who go there, ucsd college life consists essentially of Wii nintendo parties, everyone being excessively laid-back, anime cartoon sharing, dancing to obscure techno music, and taking trips to mexico to get montezumas revenge and a few stds. anyone want to clear things up for me? because i really doubt ucsd is THIS lame.

Answer:
If you're looking for a party school, UCSD really isn't one. There are a lot of students with different interests, and you can probably find friends who are into the same things that you are. There's a lot of clubs and different activities for all sorts of interests, and San Diego has a lot to offer on its own. However, if you're looking for a big fraternity/sorority system or getting pumped up every week with a big football or basketball game, UCSD isn't the place for either of those. UCSD students do tend to be laid back, but also fairly studious. In San Diego, SDSU is known as the party school and UCSD is known as "the smart ones". There's a reason that the exp. psych. program is highly regarded - as are many other departments at the school - however in general there is a strong focus on research at the school which sometimes means that some professors are more into research than teaching. There are a lot of really driven students at UCSD, and a lot of slackers as well (even though they didn't slack to get into UCSD) - college is what you make of it - finding out who you are, and what motivates you.

there are a mixture of different types of people and groups. Yeah everyone is pretty much laid back because that's how most everyone is in that area. You've got your surfers and beach bums, and there's definitely a lot of nerds. But there are also tons of good parties, you've just got to go to the right ones. All in all UCSD is a good school in a really nice area, and if you can manage to get in you should take advantage of it.

The school is highly regarded which is probably why it attracts serious students which sometimes tend to be nerdy. That said, it is a big school which means that you should be able to find your niche.
