Where is good for private camping?

Where's a good single night camping spot near the San Diego area?

  • I'm leaving my hometown within a few days and my girlfriend and we were looking to do something special before I left since she can't come. We came across the idea of camping, but there's not a camping spot that I can find that doesn't require at least a two-night stay. I was wondering if anybody else knew about a single-night camping spot that would be available on short notice.

    http://www.lakedixon.com/ Just north of San Diego off the El Norte exit on I-15, El Norte to La Honda all of the way to the end is Dixon Lake. It is actually a reservoir with a damn and lovely campsites overlooking the Hidden Valley of Escondido. It is nestled in the hills above the city right next to Daley Ranch which is a lovely old dairy farm with tons of hiking trails and wild life. The area is in bloom right now and you should be able to get a great camping spot.

We used to camp on fiesta Island but I think they shut it down years ago.( I miss the eighties). But if you want to drive an hour or so east then try going out hwy 94 past spring valley to left on Lyons valley rd. About five miles up to camping on the left. Or continue on 94 another 12 or 15 miles to Barret Lake rd. Campsite about a mile up on the right. If you prefer a striaghter road then take hwy 8 east out past el cajon into the Cleveland national forest to the Buckman springs exit . Follow signs to Lake Morena. Good luck and get a map of san diego county

Have you checked Campland On The Bay in Pacific Beach? I just checked their website and it allowed me to reserve a spot for a motorhome for one day only (of course I didn't accept the reservation). I don't know what your accommodations are (motorhome, tent, 5th wheel, etc.). But, you might try them to see if you can get a spot for one night.
