What is that museum in the L.A. area (I think)...cannot remember. Also need info on San Diego attractions?

There was a place my dad used to take me when I was a kid. I don't know the exact city but I know he has always lived in the L.A. area. It was like a cluster of 3 different museums, I think 1 was history, 1 was aviation, and 1 was a really cool science one with hands-on stuff for kids. The complex also had an I-Max theater. Anyone know? 2nd part to question, I am wanting to take my son (2) to the San Diego Zoo and possibly the Wild Animal Park. However, I am confused by what I found on the website. It seems there is admission fee to the Wild Animal Park PLUS a fee for each attraction? Is that right? Is it worth it to take a 2-year-old to this? He loves animals, but I am wondering if most of the attractions have age limits or what. Can someone tell me how it will work when I get there/a day in the park? I think the Zoo he can go to all the exhibits. And if anyone knows any other cool stuff in San Diego, please add it in. Fairs, piers, attractions. Any info/website is appreciated.

Answer:
You are thinking of the museums at Exposition Park, near USC. I used to go there as a kid, too. Thanks for the memories. See http://www.californiasciencecenter.org/ http://www.nhm.org/ http://www.you-are-here.com/architect/aerospace.html http://california.hometownlocator.com/maps/feature-map,ftc,2,fid,1732755,n,Aerospace%20Museum.cfm As to the Wild Animal Park, there are not many attractions for which there is an extra fee--perhaps the tram ride and the balloon ride. You can pay $1 or so to feed the giraffes and the lorikeets, but you can see them without feeding them. I definitely wouldn't do the tram with a 2 year old anyway; it takes almost an hour. There is a nice petting zoo he'd like and he'll like the lorikeets. I think he'll like it fine, but consider going early in the day or late in the day (it's even open at night in the summer) because it gets HOT! There are no age limits I know of at the Wild Animal Park. Two good websites are sandiegofamily.com and gocitykids.com (I think it takes you to another site now, but it has the same material). The fair is gone for the year, but you can go to Belmont Park at Mission Bay for the pier. I assume you've thought of the museums at Balboa Park, Sea World and Legoland. You might also want to look at the list of attractions on http://www.gosandiegocard.com/ to see if there are attractions you'd want to go to on that card and whether the discount will be worth it to you. You can't buy the card in many places, though. You pretty much have to buy it in advance and have it sent, or go to the Birch Aquarium. http://aquarium.ucsd.edu/Plan_a_Visit/

Balboa Park in San Diego has lots of museums....history, aerospace, natural science, model railroad, sports, art, and more. The zoo is also in Balboa Park. There is also a train ride for kids and a carousel. You can park in any parking lot and then ride the free park tram all over the park. It might be a good idea to take the tram around the park first to get an idea of where things are at and what they have. The driver usually knows what's going on each day and gives advice. At zoo, pay extra to take the bus tour. It's worth it and takes you to 75% of the exhibits. The last time I went to the Wild Animal Park there was a fee to get in and then just one additional fee for the tour....which you really needed to take to get out to where the grazing animals are roaming. Legoland is popular with young children. It is about 30 miles north of downtown San Diego in Carlsbad. If you and your husband want a nice upscale restaurant with a view, I'd suggest Bertrand Mister A's. It's a great place. A more casual place with a view of the ocean is George's Outdoor Terrace Bistro in La Jolla. Make reservations for a table near the side and time your meal so that you can watch the sunset. It's spectacular! If you want to enjoy some live entertainment (without your son), head to the Gaslamp Quarters in downtown San Diego. It's always fun to drive (or take the ferry) to Coronado Island. You can rent bikes near the Del Coronado and ride along the coast.

Here are a few fun things to do in San Diego. http://www.socalthemeparks.com/theme-parks.html Your some will like the San Diego or Seaworld better than the Wild Animal Park. Most of the attractions and rides are free but there are a few you that are not included in the park admission. Also here are some coupons to San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park. http://www.socalthemeparks.com/special-deals.html Another fun place to visit is Legoland.

Kathy H. gave you some great answers! I'm from San Diego so I would suggest you go to coronado island and have dinner at the Hotel Del Coronado! It's a beautiful town with lots of great shopping and restaurants. You can also go to Carlsbad Caverns, the Del Mar Fair, and Disney Land.
