Fun California Trip...?
-
Hello, Me and my friends (18-19 yr. olds) are planning to go to california next summer (2010) and we would like some suggestions on where to go. We've already decided on Disneyland, San Diego Zoo, Universal Studios, Venice Beach, and shopping of course. So what are good places to shop at? What are fun things to do over there? We also want to go see a musical like Wicked, what theater should we go to? We'll be in the Los Angeles/Anaheim/San Diego area. Thanks!

Check out this site for discount coupons and other info http://www.sandiego.org/nav/Visitors Mission and Pacific Beach are your best bet for fun in the sun. http://www.missionbeachonline.com/ Some must see attractions are the world famous Zoo, Sea World, and Balboa Park. You can get a park passport which allows you entry to a dozen museums as well as the zoo. http://www.balboapark.org/info/passport.php North County San Diego is home to the Zoo's Wild Animal Park. There are multi acre enclosures where herds of wild animals roam plus lots of hiking trails. http://www.sandiegozoo.org/wap/index.html La Jolla offers great views, great food, and shopping. Check out the surfers at historic Winansea Beach. At low tide you can walk out onto the tide pools. Walk along the Cove and check out the caves. Take a stroll on Prospect St and check out the shops, galleries, and have some authentic Mexican food and Alfonso's. Then head to the Birch aquarium at The Scripps Institution of Oceanography. It has a spectacular view of the bluffs over the Pacific Ocean. http://www.lajolla.com/Templates/tmpHome.aspx?page=Home&type=page http://www.alfonsosoflajolla.com/ http://aquarium.ucsd.edu/ For nightlife, the Gaslamp Quarter offers dining, drinking and dancing. It's also the home of Petco Park and the San Diego Padres major league baseball team. http://www.gaslamp.org/ The Old Point Loma Lighthouse at the Cabrillo National Monument offers great views of the dowtown skyline, San Diego Harbor and the Pacific Ocean. On a clear day you can see all the way to Mexico. http://www.nps.gov/cabr/ The La Jolla Playhouse has won Toni awards and is usually preparing something to take to Braodway. See it first here. http://www.lajollaplayhouse.org/ For a Broadway road company show, they are usually at the san Diego Civic Theater http://www.sandiegotheatres.org/

If you like to party, i've been to a very fun place in San Diego last summer. It's a youth hostel named Banana Bungalow. It's from far the best hostel i've ever been! It's directly on the beach and every day you have special activities. The best day was when they bring us to Tijuana MX, for the day... lot of fun and cheap alcool! Especially if you're 19, you can drink down there! If i were you, i would call before to know if they still go to Tijuana and what day it is. If I remember well, it was around 25-30$ per night per person, which is very cheap considering you are 1 min of walk away from the beach. In San Diego, the Old Town was nice too! It looks just like old western movies! If you go to Hollywood, I say don't waste too much time on the walk of fame... maybe my expectations were too high but i was really disappointed... If you have a car, I suggest you to go see Death Valley! It's a little bit far West from LA but it's worth it! It's the weirdest place i've ever been! We went camping in the north of the valley in the middle of the desert... great experience! I don't know where you're from but if you're not used to deserts and hot and dry places, it's the place you want to go! (ok i'm canadian yo maybe i'm too excited about hot sunny dry places cause i'm not used to it, but I swear it's a nice scenic place...) Try that website http://www.wikitravel.org and look for the place you want to go, i found a lot of useful tricks on that website, i planned a road trip accross the west coast using almost only that and Google Maps and I dont feel like i missed anyting...
