What are good High Schools in San Diego area?

Im moving to the San Diego area. Can anyone who lives there tell me what its like?

  • Im moving to North San Diego county area soon, like Encinitas/Oceanside/Solana/Vista/Cardiff kind of area. Im looking at West of the 5. Can anyone tell me about that area? Like, what are the people like? What is the workforce like?(mostly wage, or mostly professional). Is it the kind of area where you have to be a self-starter? Is it uptight or laidback?(like, regressive or proactive) About how much is housing on average?(room rentals/shared) Compared to other areas is the recession better or worse there? Is it more bike friendly or car friendly? Is it easy to get around? Is it more small town or more city-ish? Is it a kid-friendly area(I mean the attitude of the people, not the schools and stuff) How hard or easy is it to start up a small business there? And anything else you may want to share about the area..... Thanks. (=

  • Answer:

I live in the area you are asking about and think it is charming. I am in Leucadia (which is the North half of Encinitas) just a block east of 5. Every city you listed has a little bit of a different vibe. You also have a wide range of affordability levels in North County - Oceanside is the most affordable. It is right next to Camp Penndtelton so expect lots of Marine's out and about and as part of the night life. If Vis is Vista, it is affordable but NOT by the beach. Each city has a downtown and the train that takes you into San Diego or LA runs west of the 5 as well. I moved up here from central SD a year ago and it is much more laid back. There are lots of families and Encinitas feels like a beach town (which it is). I can walk down Leucadia to our "local" beach when I want to go or drive a mile or two north or south to a ton of other beaches. There are cute little restaurants, mostly independent, all up and down the 101. If you love ocean, North County San Diego is one of the best places to live in the world. For housing and rentals, check on Craigslist. Rentals are doable and are more West of 5. You will trade off space and nice housing amenities for proximity to the water (which is typical anywhere), you just need to find the right balance. Good luck

Big question! I lived in SD for a while and didn't like it at all. The weather during the year didn't suit me.Just a personal thing. I don't like fog and drizzle. The nearly constant wind buggs too.The salty air makes rust on the cars.Everything is too expensive because it is all "tourist" area. The beach is always busy in good weather.

How the hell didn't you like San Diego? It has the best weather you'll find ANYWHERE in the US, the people are so laidback and everyone is friendly, it's technically a city but it feels more welcoming than other cities like NYC, SF, LA. I don't understand how anyone wouldn't like it there. What do you want, sleet hitting your face at negative temperatures? I'd live there right now if I could, but it's so expensive because everyone else is trying to live there.
