Best shooting ranges in San Diego?

  • I want to surprise my boyfriend for our anniversary and take him shooting. I have never been before but he loves it but has never been in San Diego. Can anyone recommend the best place to go?

    there's an indoor pistol caliber range on the north side of Gillespie Field in El Cajon, I think the road it's on is called Kennedy. That's where I usually go they have guns to rent and instructional lessons and stuff, and automated target retrieval. There's also an indoor/outdoor range near a quarry in El Cajon near Cottonwood Golf Course. It's ok, but they usually stop every 30 min or so for people to check/change targets. Does get annoying when your ready to go and you're waiting on one guy to get out of the way. There's also the Carizo Creek Shooting range WAY out on 8 past the Golden Acorn Casino, basically a desert back road next to a hill that people use to shoot from the bed of their truck, not that great if you ask me. The only plus side is if you get hungry there's a subway ajoining the gas station at the bottom of the off ramp you use. And there's also another range in Kearny Mesa called american shooting center, but I've never been there.

I think the best one is in east county. There are a lot in San Diego where you can shoot indoors but this one has an outdoor range as well for shotguns and you can shoot rifles indoors that they don't let you shoot at other ranges. My fiance has a large collection of older rifles that a lot of ranges prohibit so this was the only one we found that accommodate most guns. Have fun! http://p2krange.com/

Try going to www.huntandshoot.org to find ranges near you. And if you really want to surprise him, take a road trip to Las Vegas and visit The Gun Store, on Tropicana Boulevard. They have machine gun rentals available there. Bring LOTS of money if you choose this option.
