Are bonfires legal in NY?

Are bonfires still legal in San Diego?

  • A few friends have told me they've banned bonfires. Is this true, and if so where? thanks!!!

  • Answer:

I have also heard that it is true. Though it is not clear whether it will take effect. In other words, if the life guard doesn't stop you, then you just go a head and do it anyway. Bonfires happen only at night and the life guards go off duty at dusk, so maybe you can still get away with it for a while. If they take away those fire pits, then you should make your bonfire in a metal container, I am quite sure that they won't let you make a bonfire on the sand itself (not safe for people walking by after the fire is gone, but sand is still hot; plus the sand gets dirty with soot etc). And... often in San Diego, they make a law, then someone else makes an appeal, then the law officials don't know how to act because the law is still in limbo. You know, kind of like the seals at the Children's Pool, or making a bridge across Rose Canyon. So maybe that is the case with bonfires at the beach.
