Where to stay in San Diego, CA? Natives, please help!?
-
So, I want to plan a trip to San Diego soon and I'm booking through a timeshare. The following are the places I have to choose from that my timeshare has, but it's my first time to CA, therefore, I don't know which hotel is really the best. All of these hotels have great ratings for the most part. But in terms of location, attractions, and things to do, which is/are the best place(s) to stay? Capri by the Sea – San Diego Gaslamp Plaza Suites Resort & California Vacation Club – San Diego Harbor Vacations Club – San Diego Lawrence Welk Resort Villas – Escondido, CA Monarch Grand Vacations Club – Laguna Hills, CA Riviera Oaks Resort & Monarch Grand Vacations – Ramona, CA San Diego Country Estates – Ramona, CA Sand Pebbles Resort – Solana Beach, CA Villas on the Greens @ Welk Resort – Escondido, CA Welk Resorts Mountain Villas – Escondido, CA Thanks. :]

Answer:
Capri is right on the ocean in Pacific Beach. It's the closest to everything you'll want to do. BTW Mission and Pacific Beach are your best bet for fun in the sun. Belmont Park has a vintage wooden roller coaster (one of two remaining seaside coasters on the west coast) as well as other rides. There is a boardwalk that runs the entire 3 mile length of both beaches. It's a great place to rent a bike or skates. http://www.missionbeachonline.com/ http://www.belmontpark.com/ Pacific Beach also has some great nightlife. http://www.pubclub.com/sandiego/pacificbeach.htm Check out these sites for discount coupons and other info http://www.sandiego.org/nav/Visitors http://thebestplacesinsandiego.com/

Everything besides the top three you listed are far away from general SD (downtown, beaches, Sea World, zoo) so I'd look into the others if you want proximity to local attractions.

Scratch all the Ramona resorts off your list. That's quite a drive. Lawrence Welk is a lot of old people/retired couples/second homes and escondido is inland and away from the ocean and is up in North County, about 30 minutes away from the actual San Diego sites. I would honestly go with Capri by the Sea.

Sand Pebbles would be my choice!
