How many beaches does California have all together?

How come there aren't any hotel skyscrapers along the beaches in Southern California?

  • like there are in South Beach, Waikiki, Atlantic City, or other places. Southern California has some of the best beaches and is a high demand for tourism.

    Because San Diego is a nicer place... (duh) South Beach, is famous so it has a lot of hotels/condos cause of tourists/people wanting to go to "Famous South Beach" Same w/ Waikiki, but it also happens to be located right on the edge of downtown Honolulu , so it's built up to begin w/ plus it's the main city you fly into when going to Hawaii, and it's apparently famous so they built hotels there.... I've actually been there, it's pretty pathetic excuse for a beach considering it's so famous. (it's like 10ft from the road to the ocean) Atlantic City is full of gambling addicts from NJ/NY and people w/ nothing better to do so to make that part of NJ look more attractive to people they built casinos there. The closest you get to skyscrapers at the beach here in SD are the condo towers next to the Hotel Del, in Coronado, and a few on the cliffs in La Jolla other than that, we don't really have built up areas around our beaches, so our beaches are nicer because we don't them. Also building big buildings on unstable/soft ground isn't a good idea in earthquake country

Zoning regulations due to earthquakes? (or perhaps too expensive to build to make them earthquake-safe).

Good Question. Probably because it would obstruct the view from the houses more inland. San diego has tons of hills so more people have ocean views from their houses. I don't think they would allow the permits to go through for something like that because it would reduce their property value.
