Is El Cajon a nice place to live?

Moving from Canada and looking for a place to live near El Cajon & College. How safe/expensive is it?

  There are a lot of apartments and houses for rent in that area to accomodate all of the college students. Most of them are reasonably priced for San Diego because it is a busier area. I've found apartments anywhere from $900-$1300/mo depending on how nice of a complex it is. I've also looked at houses for rent and have found a couple for as little as $1200/mo which is really good for San Diego. Typically there isn't a lot of crime happening in that area. It is pretty safe but you have to remember that it is right by SDSU so there are also a lot of fraternity and sorority houses so it can get pretty noisy with parties and there is always a risk of drunk drivers.
