Colleges in the Los Angeles or San Diego area to check out?
-
I'm interested in sciences and possibly business. Being from Kansas City, I'm not to familiar what schools are like/ known for out there. I want a good school, don't care if its private or public necessarily. I just don't want an atmosphere of extreme snobbery, people who party to hard, or people who never have some fun. I'm planning on looking at UCLA and UCSD and possibly U San Diego. I come from a private, catholic Jesuit school background but am pretty flexible. What schools are good for an above average student. Just give me your thoughts please.

Answer:
UCSD is one of the top schools in the state, especially for science, engineering, physics, oceanography, and computer science. It's a land grant school that does a lot of pure research. You need very good grades to be accepted. UCLA is geared a lot towards the entertainment and film industry. Expect a student body geared towards Hollywood personality types (beautiful and plastic). USD is a private Catholic school. Its law school is excellent. SDSU has a reputation as a party school.

For business, UCSD & SDSU have great programs, being so close to the border, they have programs that study global type companies, since there are so many companies with production just across the border! You get a real taste for what companies are really looking for. Being San Diego has so biotech companies in the area, I would imagine that they also have many relationships with them, as well. I mention this because employing your degree, knowledge & experience is so important. Of Los Angeles, has some great schools & the economy in L.A. is pretty strong! Either way, I'm sure most people will agree that SDSU, UCSD, UCLA, USC are all pretty respectable learning institutions! Good luck!!!!
Loyola Marymount is very good. http://www.lmu.edu Or try the National Catholic College Admission Association for a complete list of U.S. Catholic colleges and universities with details: http://www.catholiccollegesonline.org/index.html With love in Christ.
