Is Melbourne really that much cheaper to live than Sydney?

Live in San Diego or Sydney/Melbourne Australia?

I currently live in San Diego and am a 22 year old single guy. I've been approved for a working visa in australia and was thinking of moving to either sydney or Melbourne for a few years. I've only been in San Diego for a couple of months and am pretty complacent here but feel like I would possibly like Sydney or Melbourne a lot more...SD is already starting to feel a little stagnant. I feel like I might would even end up wanting to just permanently migrate there. Can anyone give me a comparison between San Diego and these two cities?...I'm leaning mostly towards sydney. And also your opinion on if you would stay in SD or give Australia a try given the circumstances?

22 years old with a chance to travel? go for it!! the upside of Australia over San Diego? at least more people will be speaking English.

Sydney Australia is a nice city and if I were to choose I would go for that city that is because Sydney regularly appears in a variety of global city rankings of livability and commerce.

I would think they're probably a lot alike in a number of respects, but you might want to ask in the Sydney,AU topic as to what the city's actually like
