Looking to relocate to San Diego County but not sure which areas are safest?
-
My mother, two younger sisters and I are going to move to San Diego County, from WI. We are not sure which areas of the county are safest, along with the best school districts. We have been to La Jolla and love it there, unfortunately we haven't been able to locate any places in our price range. My sisters are going to be in 6th and 11th grade. We also want to know which areas are closest to good jobs and if anyone knows of any really nice apartments in the safest areas. We don't have alot of money but are looking in the price range of about $1400 a month. If anyone has any information please let me know! Thank you!!!

Answer:
Some good areas I would look into would be Carlsbad, Encinitas, UTC/University City, Point Loma, Rancho Bernardo, San Marcos, parts of Vista, parts of Oceanside, Carmel Valley, Rancho Penasquitos, Carmel Mountain, Poway, Scripps Ranch, Tierrasanta, La Mesa. The best jobs tend to be located in the Sorrento Valley/Golden Triangle Area by La Jolla. Mission Valley and Downtown SD. La Mesa is pretty affordable and fairly safe with decent schools so I'd check out that area. North County tends to be very safe with good schools.

Hi Ashley, Well, I've been here since June 2006 and have had trouble finding a great apartment in a safe neighborhood and at a great price. The truth is that crime exist everywhere even in La Jolla! San Diego is also extremely diversed with many refugees living in areas such as Clairemont and City Heights. I currently live in Pacific Beach which is just south of La Jolla, Birdrock. My husband and I are young, but we aren't really into our neighborhood because of the young college kids who come out to get wasted. Plus even though it's a beautiful community PB still is reputable for having crime, like the recent riots because of alcohol and the occasional rapes because young ladies tend to walk home through the alleys at odd hours after hitting the bars with friends. I suppose the more north you go the better off you are and the closer to the beach you are the better chances you can avoid crime. Yet, there are great hip places in the midcity area of San Diego including Hillcrest, Normal Heights, North Park, and Kensington. Please use http://www.wikipedia.com and type in some of these neighborhoods I have mentioned to get an idea of where they are in SD and what they may offer to you and your family. Remember to check http://www.craigslist.com for great prices on housing. I'm sure you might find something, but I'm not sure if you'll be able to find 4 separate rooms or even 3 with a budget of $1400, but hey you never know! (Oh and some other areas to throw at your are Mira Mesa, Miramar, Poway, La Jolla UTC or University City) Good Luck to you and your family! P.S. Now I'm moving to City Heights, which has the highest crime rate in SD, but I'll be moving to a NEW CONDO at a great price! I guess you sometimes, not always, but sometimes have to sacrafice somethings to gain others.

No way..... Try Rancho Santa Fe

here are a few links that will really help you. It is The Reader, a free, local magazine that is a great source for local information. Click on this link and then choose the neighborhood tab and it will give you information on every city in San Diego county. http://sdreader.com or http://signonsandiego.com There are 2 areas that I know of in north county that are safe, nice area, and good schools. Shadowridge in Vista is one of them the other is the Windrift Apartments on Melrose Ave & Cannon Rd. in Oceanside. I lived there for about 8 years and I really liked it. http://www.windriftapartmenthomes.com/ Another area that I am familiar with is Ocean Beach. I love it.

Try Del Mar, or La Costa. You are still close to the beach, yet on the other side of the freeway. But both area's are beautiful, and they both offer affordable apartments. Here's a map of SD, it will help you see area's in and around La Jolla. http://sandiego.nyctourist.com/sandiego-maps.php

PUSD, Poway Unified School districts is an excellent district. one of the best in California. try Rancho Bernardo. $1400 is on the low side, but if you would like to stick to the best schools sacrifices might need to be made. P.S. what kind of idiot recomends Rancho Santa Fe to someone with a $1400 budget, it is the second most expensive zip code in the United States. (Forbes List)

The best school districts in the county are Del Mar Union/San Dieguito, which includes Carmel Valley (forget about Del Mar proper--there aren't many apartments in that area, but there are some in that range in Carmel Valley depending on how many bedrooms you need) and Poway. There should be jobs in either area. Both areas are perfectly safe.

Try Vista, Oceanside, San Marcos or Escondido. Those will be your best bet. One writer suggested Rancho, let me tell you, $1400 wouldn't be enough for a weeks rent let alone a month. Have a safe move. We used to live in WI also (bad 6 month experience) and couldn't wait to get back to the sunny SD sunshine.
