Where is the best area in San Diego to live for the price?
-
Moving to san diego, Obviously i know its expensive to live there but where is a good area to live that is cost effective, reasonable, in a safe area, and close to attractions such as bars, shopping, beaches etc...???

Answer:
North County is the best cost effective area. Cities like Mira Mesa, Poway, Rancho Penasquitos...anywhere along the 78 corridor also are good cities...all of these are very convenient areas .....as long as you don't have to commute every day to work to the San Diego central areas.

Do not go to Imperial beach, I dont know of anyone who goes there and it certainly isisnt the "nicest" of communities with a lot of troubled zones very close by. Pacific beach is nice and you can get a good home for around 750k. A good condo would be around 450k plus for a one bed. PB is close to everything and is the ultimate destination in San Diego. If you are renting expect to pay 1700 for a one bed upwards

This all depends on your definition of resaonable. There are fairly and unfairly priced homes everywhere. If you are looking to raise a family, north county coastal areas are your best. If you are a single guy stick between Pacific beach, and downtown. Either way, I would stick to within 5 miles of the ocean. You will definately enjoy your time here more. If you are interested in buying along the coast, contact me and I will send you some sample properties.

I would say North Park. It is centrally located to everything. Lots of new transplants start there. That or the area around SDSU (college) which will be lots of young people to help you get used to SD. Stay away from East San Diego, Encanto, Golden Hills,

Totally agree re Imperial Beach, supposedly the "most southwesterly city in the US." In a book published almost 20 years ago(Funkytowns USA) Mark Cramer named IB one of the top ten "funkytowns" in the country. "The last affordable little beach town in California . . ." Nice pier, too. Altho in recent years the town has gentrified, it's not as affordable as it once was. But still less costly than other areas (due to living down its old rep as a biker and doper town), and still with a few funky pockets. There is some crime, mostly around the 5 freeway. But that's actually San Diego, not IB . . .

I have seen nothing, but bad advice. If you want more eclectic and near downtown, restaurants, Balboa park, etc...definetley check out Hillcrest(warning this is a gay area, but also home to many straight, educated people), or North Park. Both have one bedrooms in the 800-1100 dollar catergories. For more of the beach scene check out Mission Beach and Pacific Beach look on craigslist.com san diego for apartments and roommates. $1700 is not the cost for a one bedroom. Anyways good luck and trust me it is not that expensive, and is well woth it.

check craigslist and compare...dont listen to this: Imperial Beach???? is too far...u ask for a closest location, is pacific beach, north park, hillcrest...PB is cheaper, from 900$ 1BR, if u can share room 500$ per month. i dont know how old r u but PB is for young people..

Imperial Beach, Reasons: Close to the beach ( no need for air conditioning, you will save $200.00 per month versus inland areas) (affordable housing, rentals or ownership) (easy freeway access) ( 20 minutes from downtown San Diego, you will save 6 hours of driving time per week versus any north or east county location) You will need both the extra time and money for a San Diego life style.
