How old do you have to be to drive in California?

  • Years ago I heard that you can be 13. But my family wasn't that sure. So how old be you have to be now.

  • Answer:

You can drive with a responsible adult and a learning permit as young as 15 1/2. You can get your provisional license at 16. If you don't screw up too bad driving on your provisional license you get your real drivers license at 18.
