Jobs for a 14-year-old? almost 15?

Jobs for 15 almost 16 yrs. old in San Diego?

  • Hi. I need to help my parents to pay for the rent in out apartment and I want to get a job when I'm sixteen or maybe next month. I checked snagajob.com for some jobs - i found petco but they only accept 16 yrs old. Should i visit their store if i could work since i'm turning 16 on 03/19 . I dont want to work at restaurants cause i dont like speaking english - im fab I would want to work with animals or retail stores where i can just fix the stuffs at the store and just answer few questions from customers. I'm getting my Work Permit this Monday and i'm a 3.6 GPA student. I would really appreciate your help if you know any jobs i can get. PS: MY parents DOESNT want me to BABYSIT and I DONT want to walk dogs.

  • Answer:

unless you're way, WAY down in south county near the border or something. It's practically required that you need to be good/comfortable speaking english in this country If you speak english better being bilingual would definitely help your chances of getting a job whereas not being able to speak english well enough is of course going to do the opposite and seriously hurt your chances of getting a job pretty much anywhere you go. That being said there are jobs out there for 16+ w/ a work permit. However any half decent jobs are usually more for 18+ w/ a diploma, so maybe just work on your school work and language skills for now

Supermarket, telemarketing, newspaper/pizza delivery. If you work in the kitchen at a restaurant, you don't have to talk to customers. With all due respect, not speaking English is not going to get you very far in this country.

You're listing an awful lot of "don't" responses but you need to do what other people "don't" want to do so you can work. Best put your "don't" list away if you "do" want some money. You may have to wait until 16 for a job. Newspapers, baby/animal sitting and lawn-mowing is about the only steady work for people under 16 that aren't comfortable speaking English - not just in California but all across America.

Your Uncle Dodge!

You're going to have a hard time getting a variety of jobs until you're 18. This is due to the way labor laws are written in California. Your best bet is fast food.

San Diego Guy

Become a soccer referee. San Diego has games year round and they won't interfere with you school schedule. Call a local club. They always need referees and won't turn you away. You'll just need to pass a test.
