-
We are travelling from Salt lake city to San diego on friday evening We are starting at around 4.00PM from Salt lake.So we were thinking of taking a break of 2-3 hrs at some rest area on the way to san diego. We thought it would be better to take a break after las vegas. Any idea at what exists on I-15 can we find rest areas. Also is there any site which will give exit details for I-15

Answer:
Coming from Salt Lake City to San Diego... after Las Vegas you will hit: Primm (on the Nevada/California border) - there is a little casino here with a truck stop and a roller coaster. Baker (CA) - there is a truck stop and the world's largest thermometer at a burger shack. Barstow is a major stop - it has several fast food restaurants and gas stations and outlet shopping and was along Route 66. Just east of the town is Calico Ghost Town State Park. Then you'll hit Victorville/Hesperia - some gas stations, but not much to see. Then you'll go through the Cajon Junction in the mountains before heading down toward San Bernardino. You'll have the choice to stay on 15 or take 215 through San Bernardino. Depending on what time it is and what traffic is like, it might be faster to stay on 15, even though it is longer than 215. 15 will take you past Ontario, Norco, and Corona (no need to stop at any of these places) then Lake Elsinore - which has factory outlet shopping. if you took 215, you will go past San Bernardino, Colton, (watch for the 215 changing freeways) Riverside, March Air base, and Perris. Riverside has a nice historic Inn and a UC campus. The 15 and 215 reconnect in Murrieta, and then you'll hit Temecula, which as a nice Old Town with some gas stations. Then you will cross into San Diego county, and it will be mostly empty until you hit Escondido. Then from Escondido (gas and fast food) all the way to San Diego, it will be development. If you don't want to make a long stop in Vegas, perhaps Barstow would be a good place. It's not too far from Vegas. There are two Caltrans rest areas on Interstate 15, both in San Bernardino County - Valley Wells rest area is at mile marker 270 (21 miles from the Nevada border, between Primm and Baker) and Kane rest area is at mile marker 217 (75 miles from the Nevada border, between Baker and Barstow). There you should find picnic areas, restrooms and some vending machines along with some information. See the link for more info on the rest areas.
