What are the top high schools in Chula Vista?

Is chula vista area a good place to stay when visiting San Diego?

  • For the long w/end, we might plan to stay in Chula vista area (near San Diego). I believe its close to downtown SD, but wanted to get opinions...this is for a young cuople that pretty much only sleepin in th e hotel if they do live in Chula Vista.

  • Answer:

I would not recommend staying in Chula Vista if you are visitng for the long weekend. Its not close enough to any of the major sights and tourist attractions. Stay in Downtown or Mission Valley that way they are central to everything. They will also be close to public transportation. Chula Vista is primarily a suburban community with not much to do for out of town visitor and tourists.

There is nothing wrong with Chula Vista. Folks get it mixed up with National City, which is nearby but even National City is ok if you don't roam the streets at night, and just stay in your car. In National City (which is 5 minutes away from CV by freeway), there is the Raddison, on National City Blvd. It's close to the freeway and is in a safe part of National City (the west side). Chula Vista, while not as close to San Diego as Mission Bay or Hotel Circle, nevertheless, is just 10 minutes from downtown by car. Chula Vista has 2 distinct sections -- the older west side, which doesn't have any great hotels to speak of. Like any vacation, you always have to keep your guard up -- even in San Diego or La Jolla. The eastern portion of Chula Vista is being developed with multi-million dollar homes. You won't find hotels there. Finally -- if your main purpose is to find lodging near downtown, go to:

Chula Vista is okay, but the better place to stay is either at Horton Plaza Embassy Suites or Holiday Inn Express near Old Town.

Chula Vista isn't the nicest place to stay in. Try oceanside instead. Good shopping, nice beaches, safe area. Prices for hotels are reasonable too. Try the Carlsbad Village Inn.

Chula Vista kind of sucks. Stay toward the coast or downtown if you really want to enjoy San Diego county. Although if you are just going to sleep there, it might be considerably cheaper.

I wouldn't stay in Chula Vista. You should look for something near the Bay. Some place around Sea World.

Chula Vista has a nice down town street with a park and cafes. Not very touristy, freeway close to attractions in downtown San Diego. Mainly a suburban community, lots of retired military.

I live in Chula Vista, there is nothing at all wrong with this town. It's the second largest city in the county. We have the U.S. Olympic Training Center, Knott's Soak City, Coors Amphitheater for concerts. You can get to all parts of the county easily with quick access to Interstate 5, 805, highways 54 and 125. There are major shopping areas that aren't as crowded as downtown San Diego. If you want to go to Mexico, it's right down the road. The J street marina has a great fireworks show for the fourth.
