What`s A Good Place To Visit?

Whats a cool place in oregon to visit for fun?

  • my boyfriend and i live on the coast..we are looking for a place in oregon to visit that we havent yet, for the summer-that pretty much weighs out everything in portland since we've been there a million times, or anything near florence, reedsport, newport, etc. We've been there...we want to go some where fun- ten points best answer.

  • Answer:

Drive East on highway 138 from Roseburg up the North Umpqua River. The scenery is spectacular, with lots of campgrounds, fishing, hiking trails and swimming options (check out Steamboat Creek Falls). If camping isn't for you, try the Steamboat Lodge. It's tough to get into, but they are right on the river and server world class cuisine. Further up the highway is Lemolo Lake, Diamond Lake and Crater Lake. Each offers food, lodging and other services. Diamond Lake offers boat rentals, bike rentals and horseback riding. Crater Lake is Oregon's only National Park, and is a "must see" for any Oregonian. Rooms at Crater Lake Lodge are also difficult to get, but are well worth the trouble. Rooms on the lake side have spectacular views. Follow the highway south to Medford, or east into Central Oregon and make your own loop. Enjoy!

Also, if you go the other direction on hwy 138 and connect to hwy 38, it'll take you to Reedsport for the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area and the Dunes that you can ride on that stretch from Florence to Coos Bay. Also, lots of good little shops in Coos Bay and Florence to visit as well as state parks, camping, and hiking. Good Luck!

O.K.

You didn't say what type of things you like to do...shop, drink, eat, adventure, hike, etc. There isn't exactly a Disneyland hiding in Madras or something, so the choices in the state are a bit limited on theme parks and shopping districts. ;) I am kind of an outdoors person, so I would recommend the following: 1) If you want a real adventure, go rafting on the Deschutes River out of Maupin or the White Salmon River out of BZ Corners (SW Washington near Hood River). Tons of fun and thrills. Maybe $50 each for WS and $75-$100 each for the Deschutes, depending on the trip. 2) Go to Wallowa Lake. Camp or stay in the lodge. It's beatiful, it's something most Oregonians haven't even seen and you can ride the tram, which is like something from the Swiss Alps. It cost about $25 each, though. Kind of far from the coast, but worth the trip. 3) Stay in Bend, maybe at a resort for a few days. Good restaurants, shops, hiking, golf, mountain biking, etc. I have stayed at Eagle Crest near Redmond and it was really nice. Peaceful, nice pools, great golf course. Or, If you want to adventure well north of Oregon in Washington state, I agree that Wild Waves is a lot of fun. Pretty busy during the hottest days of summer, but definitely worth it. It's closer than Seattle by quite a bit. Seattle area has loads to do. EMP, Space Needle, Mariner games, lots of cool restaurants and bars. Seattle would probably be my first choice if you haven't been there, since you said you have hit most everything in Portland.
