What are the best places to live 5-7 miles out of the city of Portland OR? What are the worst?

  • What are the best places to live 5-7 miles out of the city of Portland OR? What are the worst? Please include how long it takes for a person to take public transport to get to the city from your fav areas.

  • Answer:

The MAX line (light rail) runs through Beaverton which has a lot of respectable areas to live in and a number of apartment complexes directly adjacent to the stations. This is an area almost exactly in the 5-7 mile range west from downtown Portland. The time to travel from Beaverton to the heart of downtown by MAX is in the order of 25-40 minutes.

I don't remember miles exactly. I used to live in the Portland area. The mass transit system in the Portland area is above average. I'd recommend trying to live close to a light rail (MAX) stop or a bus that runs every fifteen minutes even on weekends. North Portland would be cool if you want to live in a house. Beaverton might be better if you want to live in an apartment. Don't live in an area with huge roads but crosswalks/intersections that aren't signalled because driver's do NOT obey the law and stop for pedestrians. Most drivers in the area would much rather run you over than wait five seconds for you to cross the street.
