Is Portland a good place to live in?

Where is a good, safe place to live in Portland, Oregon?

  • My brother is moving out there next month to attend Le Cordon Bleu. He wants to find somewhere to live that is going to be safe, close by, and reasonably priced. We know NOTHING about Portland or have anyone to ask. Can we find out where he should live? Also, maybe any additional info about living in Portland would be cool too. Thanks!!

    Getting around Portland is actually pretty easy, since they have a good light rail system. You could live in the suburbs, Beaverton to the west or Gresham to the east, and catch the light rail to school. Downtown Portland is nice, but I'm not sure which areas have the lowest crime rates. Generally the west side is probably nicer and safer, but the east side is cheaper. Rent is pretty low everywhere compared to other big cities, though. I haven't lived in Portland for a while (12 years), so you should try to get some answers from current residents.

check out some apts called the "Sitka" they are located in the pearl district of portland and are really nice. safe location and from what i understand they have some good deals for students. sometimes they have a waitlist but still..its worth checking out atleast...
