Where can I check a British's passport?

Anyone use check with name hand written to get a passport in Oregon?

  • I applied the US passport in Oregon, I got my check when I opened my bank account. There is only my account No. and routing number on that check, so I wrote my name and address on that, I am pretty sure my writting is correct and clear. I though it should be fine, but the post office worker told me the post office only receive name printed checks, but she was not sure about the policy in the Department of State. Anyway, I sent my application out. Anyone use check with name hand written to get a passport in Oregon? If they do not take my check, what should I do? If I only need to send a name-printed check to the department of state again, that should be fine, but if I have to spend another $25 to do the application again, it will be a little hurt. Thanks for your help!

    why did you take that chance? Bad decision. NOBODY will accept checks without printed name on them. You could have gotten cash from your account and bought a money order to apply with. You will probably get a letter saying your payment was unacceptable and it will delay getting your passport. I hope they accept it, but I doubt it. does not matter what state you are in.

Thats how the checks are issued until you get your own printed ones. There is no reason as to why they wouldn't accept it.Nothing you can do now if you already sent it.

If they didn't accept the check, you still have the money in your account. The payee must deposit the check and transmit the information to your bank for the check to be processed and payment received. Since you still have the money, go to your physical bank and have them issue a bank check drawing money from your account and made out to the U.S. Passport Agency (or whatever the instructions say). Your bank may charge a few dollars for the service. (Change to a credit union to minimize such fees.) You can use the check the bank gives you just as if you had written a check. Only it will be much more acceptable since it is no longer dependent on your good faith and credit, but on the bank's faith and credit.
