Is 1.7mm of rain a lot?

Are there a lot of thunderstorms in Oregon or is it just rain?

• I have been looking for a place to live where it storms a lot. Not like frightening storms with tornadoes but I do like the thunder and lightening, along with rain. Not sure why, that is just the type of weather that I love. Now I have heard that it rains a lot in places like portland and seattle but is it just rain, or do they experience a lot of thunder and lighting out there too?

  In Portland and Seattle it is Mostly just rain..........although Eastern Oregon/Washington do get a lot of dry(no rain) lightning. For real excitement head to Diamond Lake Oregon..........Mt. Thielsen(which hovers over the lake) gets more lightning strikes in one summer week than Portland will get in a century. Lightning not only strikes in the same place twice.....it strikes in the same place dozens of times every single year there.
