Secluded camping near Portland?

Secluded camping in near portland oregon?

  • I am trying to find camping areas in Oregon, within about 2 hours from Portland Oregon prefer east. We want to be out in the wilderness, no need for bathrooms. Need to be able to drive vehicles to location. Could use as many suggestions as possible. Thanks

  • Answer:

It depends on what you mean by secluded. 1) Oxbow Regional Park: beautiful old growth forest along the banks of the Sandy River, great campground and the closest to Portland that you can get (30 min to downtown, plus the only park that you can take the bus to.) It is open year round. 2) Eagle Creek in the Gorge has a surpringly nice car camping area and Eagle Creek is one of the nicest places to hike but you can hear murmers of I 84. Open year round. 3) Campgrounds in Mt Hood there are about 40 but most of them are only open from May to October, the rest of the year they are snowed in. Check this link out. http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/mthood/recreation/campgrounds/index.shtml Some of my favorite are the ones around Timothy Lake, beautiful in summer but it can be busy on the weekends. 3) Most secluded and free (would also meet criteria of no bathroom) are going to be Devil's Half Acre and Grindstone that are off the Barlow Road. It is a beautiful drive and much of the Barlow Road is the old Oregon Trail, makes you feel very secluded.
