What will Los Angeles and its metro area look like in 20 years>?

Would Phoenix or Scottsdale be a good area for someone single in their 20s?

  • Currently I live in the Los Angeles,CA area and can't fing a job here or affordable housing. I'm a 27 year old single white male. In June 2004 I gradauted from California State University Northridge with a BA in Radio/TV/Film and a minor in marketing. I haven't found a job in the entertainment industry. I no longer want to work in the entertainment industry. My parents want to throw me out of their house and I can't afford a place to live in the LA area. A room for rent in the LA area goes for $800 or $900 a month. A crappy studio goes for $1000 or more a month. For several years after college I have thought about packing up my car and driving to Phoenix to find better job oportunities and cheaper housing. Is the Phoenix area a good place for a young single white male? Would anyone recomend the phoenix metro area as a place to live? In the LA area people are very judgemental on who the hire. I have CP,Tourets and talk in a monotone voice. Will I have employment descrimination in Pheonix Metro? Leaving LA and saying goodbye to my friends and family would be hard but if I could find a better life for myself in Phoenix it would be worth it. What part of the phoenix area should I look into? I don't want to live in any low income ghetto areas.

First, I have to disagree with Marc W. Downtown Scottsdale is NOTHING like L.A. ...take it from an ex-Californian (Ventura County). It all depends on what you want. Scottsdale is really nice, but it's a little too upscale and snooty for me. Even though there are great casual places, the upscale places out number them. There are a lot of nice upscale restaurants, but there just to may of the same restaurants you see every where else like Applebees, Black Angus etc. The chicks are hot, but if you don't drive a BMW or Mercedes, just keep walking. Some areas in Scottsdale can be just as expensive as CA prices. I don't see how somebody can brag about living in Scottsdale when they can live in CA for what they pay in rent or their mortgage payment in Scottsdale where in CA they can have the beaches and nice weather. Central Phoenix, if you drive a little north, there's communities where you'll forget your in Arizona. Downtown Phoenix is cheaper, more diverse with a lot of great hole in the wall restaurants, artsy places and all sorts of different people, and not just snooty richy rich people. There's a lot of dive bars to. It's at the center of everything, so you don't have long commutes in which ever direction you travel. The light rail will be up and running soon, so you can catch that to a lot of different places to. http://www.azcentral.com/relocation/reloc_plan.html http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/ http://www.arizona-leisure.com/arizona-attractions.html http://www.coppersquare.com/ Nice places to hang out! http://www.tiltedkilt.com/ http://thegrillnextdooraz.com/ http://www.thelibraryusa.com/ http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=276307205 http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/adIndex/ad/200646 Nightlife: http://www.azcentral.com/ent/nightlife/ http://www.downtownlive.net/main/

Scottsdale is a great place for the young and single but it too can get pricey. My hubby & I found the orange county homes were about 3x's the amount compared to Scottsdale. Our 1 mil might run 3-4 mil there. If that helps understand at all. If you go to Old Town it's older (duh) but it's also a little cheaper, it's near Scottddale Fashion Square & tons of dining & boutiques. The further north you go the newer & more expensive things can get. But Old Town is a big deal to the single life so rent can be comparable here & there. As far as a job goes - depends on what you want to do. If you're doing data entry no one will hear you...if you're doing sales...well, it might be tough to get hired.

I'd suggest downtown / Old Town Scottsdale. It'll remind you of Los Angeles - lots of people from there, and the city even looks vaguely the same. Phoenix downtown is OK, but more business professional.

Scottsdale but your best bet would be Tempe. Drunk ASU girls, do I have to say anything else?
