Whats the cost of living, weather, and best places to live in arizona?

  • I recently live in the cold of maryland and i desperatly want to move and i was thinking about going to arizona, I perfer maybe phoenix? Im also graduating from highschool this year and want to go to college around there I'm just not sure what the colleges have to offer either. whats it like there? cost of living/weather/things to do/weather/ close colleges/ ect?

    I live in Mesa, Az (outside Phoenix) and the weather can get pretty brutal in the summers. It isn't unusual to go 3 or 4 weeks with triple digit temps in the summertime. One summer it go so hot they had to close Sky Harbor Intl Airport. The temperature hit 122F and the asphalt runways began getting too soft to allow airplanes to land or take off. I work outdoors year round. In the summers, I try to get out to do my work thing about 4:00 AM. It is still 90 degrees out and hot as hell, but at least the sun isn't cooking you yet. By 8:30 or 9:00 AM it can be so hot out it will hurt to breathe thru your nose.I get out to work early so I can be home in the air conditioning before noon. September and October are our monsoon season, we get some pretty good storms in the fall, but not always rainstorms, sometimes we get duststorms too and they can tear the heck out of your car's finish. We also get very intense storms called "microbursts" which can bring down houses, walls etc. Just a couple weeks ago we actually had HAIL in Mesa! I have lived here since 1983 and have NEVER seen hail in the Valley before. As far as expenses go, car insurance here is extremely expensive, due to the fact so many illegals get in accidents with NO insurance whatsoever. Rent is high for this area and the amenities you get as well. Mobile homes are cheap but land is expensive. MBs are cheap because without a LOT fo shade in the summers, they turn into TV Dinners and you get cooked right along with them. Another thing to consider is the extremely high amount of transients here in the Valley of the Sun. Because of it, all utilities, (Electrical, phone, cable, etc) demand substantial deposits to begin service. Usually after a year or so you get your deposit back, but when first setting up in AZ, it can get quite expensive. I went to Arizona State University (in Tempe, not Mesa) and its a good school. I was studying the Russian language and had very small class sizes, because not many people study Russian (then or now), but the College of Law on ASU's campus is almost always SRO. In-state tuition (for residents) is pretty reasonable, but out of state tuition is about 8 times the in-state rate. There are a TON of schools here in the Valley; night schools, courses you take on your PC, Community Colleges, etc. It would be a good idea to come to AZ NOW, get a Driver's License with an in-state address on it and then go back to Maryland for a year and go to school there. After that year, move to AZ and apply to school as a resident of more than one year in Arizona. The savings in tuition more than make up for the expenses of travelling.

take it from a person who was born in maryland and lived there for most of their life. DONT COME HERE! we have a major immigration problem because we are on the border with mexico. the weather is unbearable most of the year (turn on your oven on to warm and stick your head in thats about the temperature most of arizona is most of the year.) although asu is a good school with lots of parties its in the middle of tempe where it gets really hot. also traffic is really bad (almost as bad as D.C.) once I graduate from high school in two years I'm moving back east. trust me go somewhere like los angeles california if you dont like the "cold of maryland"

Phoenix is unbearably hot in the summer. Arizona State University is at Mesa (suburb). Also try Flagstaff or Sedona as they are both a bit cooler. Some like Prescott.

DUDE i live in havasu,, last year in june it hit the 120s for a week,, oven mitts to open the car door,, cant walk outside barefoot,, and yes you can fry an egg on the sidewalk,, they have that everyyear,, my electric is about 385 dollars a month in the summer,, want to come and hang out,, at night it gets down to about 101 at midnight,, think about it 101 at midnight,,and yes,, turn your oven on 400, then with your head in front open the door,, that is what it is like,, very hostile
