How to get from Penn State to Cornell?

Is there a way to get from Penn State U Park to the Lewistown Amtrak station or Philadelphia?

  • I'm on the college hunt right now and at the moment my top choice is Penn State Main Campus. I live in Philadelphia and I need a way to get home on the holidays should I get accepted there. I looked on the Amtrak website and it says there is a station in nearby Lewistown, about 20 miles away. I probably can't bring my car on campus, so is there any transportation authority to get to and from either the Amtrak station or the city itself?

  • Answer:

I do this trip all the time as my family is in State College. You want to take the Keystone Service Amtrak train from Philadelphia to Harrisburg (10-12 trips per day), then the Fullington Bus or Greyhound to State College. The train and bus station are in the same building in Harrisburg. http://www.fullingtontours.com/fulltours/website/info/7155.pdf Ignore Lewistown entirely. The once-per-day train that goes through is chronically late. The bus to State College leaves from a completely different part of town, isn't timed to the train, and is the same bus that just came from Harrisburg anyway. Once you get established, it's easy to find other students going between SC and Philadelphia to share a ride.

There is no train station in Lewistown. Amtrak probably has bus service to there. The easiest way to get to State College from Philly is to take Amtrak to Harrisburg. There are several buses that go to State College from Harrisburg. Fullington Trailways offers them and so does Greyhound.
