What to do in Pennsylvania?
-
Long story short I am taking my wife out of our town for her birthday (happy 29th honey!) and would like to go to Pennsylvania because it's a nearby state and we figured it would be fun. We are going in mid-march and there is the problem...what is there to do at that time of year? We do not want to go into any major cities because we both tend to get lost in bigger cities, and neither of us like winter stuff like skiing, hunting, fishing. Any ideas? We are coming from northern New York and no clue where to go or what to do... we just need to get out of this place! we are looking to travel more towards central or western PA if anything sounds good. Thanks folks!

Answer:
I live in Lancaster County, PA. Hershey is a great place to visit. Depending on your budget, a great thing to do is spend a night at the Hershey hotel and have breakfast in the circular dining room. Its a beautiful hotel that any woman would love. While there you could visit Hershey's Chocolate World, and see how the chocolate is made. Another thing to do is a free tour at the hotel. It talks about Milton Hershey, takes you through the hotel and such. Oh, and I forgot to mention, they have a spectacular spa themed around chocolate, definetly worth looking into. Another place would be in Lancaster County. There is beautiful farm scenery, simpleness, and amazing home cooking. I would suggest staying near Shady Maple. They have a huge gift shop, market, and an amazing all you can eat Smorgasbord full of Pennsylvania Dutch cooking. There are a lot of antique stores in the area, beautiful scenery, walking trails, etc. You could also look into the area of Blackwell or Wellsboro. It is further north and in the mountains. The scenery is beautiful and there is a rails to trails, cabins, and cozy fires. Wellsboro is a small, charming town with an old library, cute shops, and tasty food. Whatever you choose, I hope you and your wife enjoy it immensely!

You can visit Fallingwater and take a tour of the home. It's a very nice tour and the scenery in the area is lovely. It's located in The Laurel Highlands area of southwestern PA. It's about a 1 1/2 hour drive from Pittsburgh. Here is a website for more information: http://www.fallingwater.org
