Where to live in Philly?
-
I am new to the area and need a place to live between Jenkintown, PA and Cherry Hill, NJ. I would prefer to live in PA, but it looks like the halfway point is center city. Does anyone know any decent neighborhoods to live in around that area that is nice, not directly in the middle of the city, and somewhat affordable?

I would go with Bensalem. It is directly North of Philly, so if you won't be working IN philly then you don't have to pay the city wage tax. However you may have to deal with rush hour when taking I-95 south towards the city. Then you can go straight down I-95 and take one of the bridges east to Jersey, or go 73 west to take you to Jenkintown. The halfway point wouldn't really be Center City, it would be more like The areas between Mayfair (philly area as soon as you cross the bridge to PA) and Five Points which is almost as far west as you can go before you hit Burholme park and leave the city, but from one end to the other is about 5 miles across The farther west you go down 73 the better the neighborhoods will get, and of course the rent may go up a bit to match. I'm going to post a link to Google Maps to show you area along route 73 to show you what I mean, and remember the farther west you go the better the area

Any area that is near Center City, but not in the middle of it, will not be too great. I live in the Jenkintown area, and wonder whether you could live out here, and take a train to Cherry Hill. The Jenkintown train station is a hub, where all the regional trains come in. Of course, you would then have to take a cab to where you are going in Cherry Hill, unless it's near the train station. Jenkintown or Abington are really nice places to live. An alternative would be the Greater North East, or parts of Bucks County, such as Neshaminy or Langhorne. It would then be easy for you to drive to both places.
