Where is the best place to live in Philadelphia for a late twenties, single, professional, female?

I will be working in Radnor, but want to live in the city. I plan on taking the train into work, to avoid Phili traffic.

Answer:
Both Society Hill and Rittenhouse Square are great, especially if money is no object. Other nice areas that won't be as expensive are: The Museum District, Queen Village, and Northern Liberties. (Northern Liberties is a little outside everything else, but people who live there love it.) If you have a car, factor that into your decision as well. If you live in Society Hill or Rittenhouse, you will definitely need to rent a parking space as well, as there is nowhere to park.

The best place to live in Philadelphia is Society Hill (named after the Free Society of Traders). This neighborhood is comprised of early 18th and 19th century brownstones as well as modern condos and apartment buildings. There are cobblestone streets, great restaurants and beautiful parks. It is the site of the Liberty Bell and Independence Square (National Park) and is simply steeped in the history of early colonial days as well as the Revolution. Bounded (roughly) by the Delaware river to the East, Chestnut Street to the North, 5th Street to the West and South Street to the South, it is convenient to center city (you can walk there) and all the amenities that Philly has to offer. Rittenhouse Square is also nice, but it is directly in center city, the occupants are much older, and it's noisy. Philadelphia is one of the most friendly and liveable cities in the world. And the commute to Radnor will be a breeze. P.S. George Washington really DID sleep here! (As did Franklin, Jefferson, Hamilton and the rest of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.)

It used to be Rittenhouse Square. You would have to check to see if that is still the case.

Rittenhouse is expensive, but if you can afford it go for it. Also check out Queens Village, Fairmount, Northern Liberties and Society Hill.
