Should I move to Chicago or Philadelphia?

Can someone tell me a little about PHILADELPHIA?

  • I'm thinking about moving to downtown philadelphia. I've never been there, (but i probably will before i move..) I would be going to school there.. the school has campuses in chicago, pittsburg, nyc, & philly. i chose philly at random.... tell me what you think? is it easy to find jobs? are people around there usually friendly? (i know new yorkers arent...) is it impossible to drive in the city? (as bad as NY???) any info is greatly apreciated :)

  • Answer:

downtown Philadelphia is both residential and business mixed use. There are 100,000 residents in Center City. It is very active with tons of nightlife, great restaurants. Driving downtown is not bad, but finding parking can be a humdinger and the parking authority is relentless if you are parked illegaly or your meter expires. The job market here is very strong and you will find work easily. This is a big city, people can be friendly or miserable.

Driving in the City isn't 1/2 as bad as New York, but it's not as easy as driving in the 'burbs. The Job market isn't bad at all. It all depends on what kind of job you want. Part time jobs are a dime a dozen. It depends on which neighborhood you move to, but most people are pretty nice in philly. Again, it's not new york, but it's also not a 'burb. Hope this helps!

There are different opinions from each people but I guess I'll say philly is okay, there's traffic in the city during rush hours of course, there are museums and historic sites, but if I were you I'll stay out from west philly because we've had more shootings there. I live in the Kensington section and it's not that bad like west philly I haven't heard any shootings here yet. We're friendly depending on who you come up to, but if you are going to drive in the city I'll suggest taking transportation.

Easy to find crappy jobs, hard to find careers....... People are Ok, like anywhere else I suppose. Unless you from the the mid west and people are scary friendly around there! So we are unfriendly compared to that! LOL Hard to drive- takes some getting use too.. and parking is AWFUL. Just like any city- it has really really nice parts and really really bad parts. Stay away from West Philadelphia and North Philadelphia. Check out the apartments at night as well as the day time and after 5:00 to see what parking is like.

I'm from philly and if i were you i would change your descicion to move here. the people are nasty, the traffic is bad, the summer is too cold and wet and the summers too hot and mosquito infested. i have been trying my whole life to find a way out of here. to answer your questions though, the drving is ok in the city. its not like NY at all, but its also not like a suburb. i guess finding a job isnt too bad because you can work in the city, in the suburbs, or in De or NJ. Its all close. If I were you, I would go the chicago route.
