  Please Touch Museum is fun for kids, Franklin Institute is also fun too for kids, I loved it when I was little and there is a large free park called the Wissahickon that is beautiful. If you want to get out of the city and go to a historic little area called Chestnut Hill (I live there) take 76 W and get off at Lincoln drive, it is a VERY curvy road but runs along a scenic area, the Wissahickon is along it, you could park along there at several spots, just beware of the curviness, go slow, even if the nasty philly drivers tailgate you, just ignore them. Anyway, follow lincoln drive until it dead ends (15 min from city if going slow), and make a right on Allen's lane, go to Germantown Ave. and turn left, you will pass lots of beautiful houses on the way. Drive around Chestnut Hill and stop at the Community Center on germantown for info about historic buildings. There is a small street in the area which is an exact replica of a street in Normady that has cobblestone and gas street lamps! I think it us called gate house road or something but not positive about that. Tons of small boutiques and restaurants in Chestnut Hill. If you want to visit a local artist community area, Fishtown is your best bet. Coffee shop called Rocket Cat is a great local hipster spot, BookSpace on Frankfort is REALLY cool massive warehouse bookstore/ performance art/ band venue, Johnny Brenda's is a bar restaurant.
