Is Philadelphia safe for my family?

What cities surrounding philadelphia, pa are well populated and family friendly neighborhoods?

  • Hi, My husband and I are looking to open up a barbershop and a salon in a populated and safe area next to philadelphia pa. I have only been to pa a few times and don't know which cities are safe, affordable, and family friendly. I prefer a diverse area, maybe somewhere near a college that would allow a great amount of clients to our shops. Can anyone provide me with some background information on pa? I would really appreciate the feedback and any insight that anyone can give. Also, if anyone can suggest a link that would help us, that too would be great! Thank you so much!

I'm uncertain as to whether or not you're interested in surrounding CITIES, such as Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, or Reading or if you're interested in the suburbs, so I'm going to assume suburbs, because I can. I live in the Philadelphia suburbs and I can guarantee you, they're really nice for the most part. I wouldn't move anywhere like Norristown, Abington, Cheltenham, or Upper or Lower Moreland, Bensalem, strictly because while some of the areas are nice, most, in my opinion, are not. The closer you are to the city, generally the worse it is. Really nice places to live are towns such as Upper Darby, Maple Glen, Horsham, North Wales, Warrington, Warminster, Doylestown and towns generally surrounding that area. Yeah, they have their bad parts such as the projects in Warminster and the Avenues in Horsham, generally these towns are extremely nice, boast nice school districts, and offer good standards of value and material living, the area is also very crowded and generally very expensive. There are also lots of barbershops, such as small little mom-and-pop shops off the main streets to high-volume chain barbershops such as Super Cuts or the Hair Cuttery. . I know I went off on kind of a rant on the safety of the neighborhoods. Just try your best to steer clear of Norristown and you'll be well!

There are no "cities surrounding Philadelphia. There are Townships and boroughs. There are densely populated, urban townships close to the City, and suburban a rural townships the further out you go. There are nice boroughs and poor, nasty ones. The areas that are near colleges, that are diverse (and livable) will include the communities in Lower Merion and Haverford Townships. The communities in Cheltenham and Abington Townships, Conshohocken Borough, or Jenkintown Borough.
