Which city is more violent, Baltimore or Philadelphia?

  • I will be relocating from Baltimore to Philadelphia early next year. I have been hearing people talk about how violent and crime ridden Philadelphia is. I have been living in Baltimore for six years, and I am from New Orleans. I know that both Baltimore and New Orleans have reputations for high crime also. If Philly is less violent or just as violent as Baltimore, then it won't be a problem because I feel that if I can live in Baltimore then I can live in Philly. But, if Philly is MORE violent than Baltimore, then I may reconsider because Baltimore is pretty dang bad. If there is somewhere worse than here or my hometown, New Orleans, then I don't want to be there.

    Most victims of violent crime in Philadelphia are involved in the drug trade. If that doesn't describe you, then you have little to worry about. The violence is generally concentrated in certain neighborhoods that you likely won't be visiting or going anywhere near. Philadelphia is no more violent than Baltimore. It gets a bad rap in the news so people run around saying how dangerous Philly is when they've never spent any significant amount of time here. My fiancee and I have been here for years and have never been the victims of any type of crime- violent or "non" violent. *Knock on wood*

I have lived in Philadelphia my entire life. I think it all depends on what section of the city you happen to be in. I think everyone has good days and bad days from time to time. So you might have a day in Philly when everyone is pleasant and says hello to you for no reason...then you may have a day when people are rude and/or nasty. It's like every where else in the world. Don't let it stop you from coming to Philly. It's rich in history and a seriously great city for foodies. There are quite a few micro breweries around town too.
