What parts of Philadelphia should I avoid!?
-
I am going to be going to Philadelphia for a concert at The Mann Center. And I am nervous because I hear Philadelphia is a bad place. I am just wondering if the Mann Center is in a really bad place or anywhere around that is?

Answer:
I hate Philadelphia. They call it "The City of Brotherly Love". Most folks there are rude.

All of North Philadelphia (excluding Northern Liberties, Fairmount and Fishtown -- these are fairly safe.) All of West Philadelphia (excluding University City; this is the UPENN/Drexel area.) South Philadelphia -- West of Broad Street areas known as Point Breeze and Grays Ferry. Also avoid the area around 5th Street; from Wharton down to Snyder. Parts of Northeast Philadelphia -- Areas such as Frankford and Kensington are very dangerous areas. Avoid them also. (Though most of the Northeast is safe.) All of Southwest Philadelphia. The Mann Center is in West Philadelphia, but pretty secluded and safe as it's close in proximity to Fairmount Park. I wouldn't however recommend going to any establishments in or around that area afterwards, as it's in deep West Philadelphia (Parkside Neighborhood.) However, you can cross I-76 nearby and go to the Manayunk neighborhood which is very nice, with suitable places to eat and drink.

Rob K gave a fairly comprehensive overview. But, the Mann Center is safe. You will have no problem there.

all of them.
I've heard that west Philly (past 40th street, or past U Penn), and north Philly (I guess by Temple University) are pretty bad, so avoid those areas. I say stay in downtown, and you'll be fine. By the way, ignore everyone that says that all parts of Philly are bad. I think people underestimate how truly beautiful it is.

you will be fine !!! and i don't know why everyone says we are rude .. of course you are going to find people that are rude, but that is everywhere. there are many wonderful people... most of the time you can't get people to stop talkin to you! lol .. you will have fun... and seriously don't be scared .. go out to the bar afterwards or something... take advantage... philly rules.

Don't avoid any parts. It's not that dangerous that you have to avoid parts. But, North Philly, especially Kensington. There is a lot of trash there too, and the buildings are peeling and tilting to one side.
The White Cat.
It really depends on your attitude. I manly hear people say North Philly is bad, but it really depends.
