What's good to do in Philadelphia in December when travelling on a shoestring budget?

    Definatelly go to "South Street" in South Philadelphia. There's tons of stores but it's not like a mall. They have alot of urban and interesting stores like occult shops, cool apparal and ethinic jewelery stores with tons of good food. There's also amazing murals, mosaics and modern art along the streets created by local artists. In that area, you walk to Chinatown, if you like Chinese food. Definately getting real Chinese food can warm you guys up on a cold day.

Travel, the top attractions in Philadelphia are: 1) Liberty Bell - a historic attraction; 2) Philadelphia Museum of Art - given that you like art, this would be interesting as it has one of the largest collections in North America plus Rocky's steps; 3) Philadelphia Zoo; 4) Independence Hall - another historical place; 5) Love Park featuring Robert Indiana's LOVE sculpture; 6) Salon L'Etoile which is a well known hair salon; 7) The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier; 8) Christmas Light Show - just the right time of yar; 9) Betsy Ross House - see where Old Glory was first sewn; 10) Rittenhouse Square - originally designed by William Penn, the town founder. With the exception of the hair salon, most of these attractions are free or low cost so you will have plenty to see and do without costing an arm and a leg. Of course, one of the most famous dishes is a Philadelphia cheesesteak. The best place to go for one of those is Pat's House of Steaks near the Italian markets in South Philly. Geno's is another place worth a mention and it is just across the road. It doesn't cost all that much either. I have attached sources for your reference. Have a great time.
