I need help with this... I'm trying to plan a vacation with my family, I would like to take them to Sesame St.

I would like to take them to Sesame St. in Philly, PA. But I am trying to make this a week long vacation, does anyone have any other ideas where we could go while we were in the area, or somewhere else that we could possible drive maybe an hour or 2 to get to & stay there for a few days. Sesame St. has a vacation bpackage but it only is for 2 days, so we are hoping to do that for 2 days then maybe drive somewhere else within a 2 hours distance and stay there the remaining time. I have a 6 yr old and a 2 yr old. And good ideas on where a nice place to go with the children the other 4-5 days? I am planning on taking our vacation either at the end of June or sometime in July!

If you're willing to actually go into the city, there are some great museums. Particularly, Franklin Institute and the Please Touch Museum. And there's the Philadelphia Zoo. Don't know of much else in the area that might interest a 2 and 6 year old. The Crayola Factory is kind of neat and about an hour and a half nort of Philly. Then there's Hershey Park west of Philly...also probably about an hour and a half. The only other places I can think of are Dorney Park and Six Flags Great Adventure, but I wouldn't exactly recommend them for a 2 year old. Maybe the 6 year old, but it's more roller coasters and big rides. Oh...I've never been there, but I'm told Dutch Wonderland is great for the kids and it's in Lancaster which is absolutely beautiful! You can get discount tickets for most of these places through AAA if you are a member. Definitely something to look into.

the one person was right, sesame street has very expensive food! i live in philadelphia and i would recommend taking them to the zoo also. its a very safe enviorment and there is tons to do. also, the please touch museum is a GREAT place to take younger kids. another good place is the franklin institute. they have so many attractions for young kids!! its really fun + the kids are learning.. its cool! and dont forget to grab a philly cheesesteak or pretzel; no philly trip is right without one :]

Try Washington's crossing for historical n country setting. It is an hour or less from sesame st. William penn manor is 20 min from sesame place. It has a working colonial farm. Close 2 Washington Crossing is new hope(train 4 kids),museum in N.J. that has a planetarium, and lots more.

the jersey shore is only an hour or two away. go to the boardwalk near Pt. Pleasant for games and people and Sandy Hook for a nice beach. there are motels aplenty in the area. you might also look for caves you can tour in the area - Pennsylvania has some good ones! very kid-friendly and cool :) you could also look into a science museum, kids museum, or aquarium in philly... used to go camping when i was a kid too. cheap fun for a night or two.

I don't know which way you're travelling but there's an aquarium in Baltimore. There's the National Zoo in Washington DC. Also in DC that would appeal to young children is the air and space museum and perhaps the museum of natual history (with dinosaur bones, the boy would love that!). There's a King's Dominion I think in that area as well, and a Busch Gardens in Williamburg VA. There's the Endless Caverns in New Market VA. There's also some Railroad Museums and Coal Mines you can visit all around that area. Have fun!!

Also go to Hershey Park. It is worth the drive. It will take about two hours to drive there from Sesame Place, and it is all major roads.

Sesame Place is not too far from Six Flags or the Jersey Shore. To me, Sesame Place on top of Six Flags might be a little too much theme park, but the shore would be a nice break. Especially Long Beach Island which is a little quieter and more family-oriented than other shore areas. You could get a motel room for a few nights in Beach Haven or thereabouts and the kids could build sand castles on the beach while you read a novel. If you are taking a whole week's vacation, you could schedule the shore portion in midweek and save a bit on the cost of the motel. There's also the aquarium in Camden which has recently reopened and is much larger than before.

Philly is full of history as well, you can go to Penn. or Hershey or Eerie to see the Amish. Have fun...

We took our girls to Sesame Place last year for Father's Day.. Our girls were 6 and 2 also.. Be sure to pack your own food for Sesame Place.. it was REALLY EXPENSIVE for food there. Bring your own camera too, because you can take your own pictures with the characters without having to buy the $14 ones they sold. I hope you have a good trip.. Maybe you can take the to the shore? Rehoboth Beach, Delaware is a nice place - and not too far.. Otherwise, maybe you can book a couple of days at a family resort in the Poconos. I know Caesars has one.. Paradise Cove? Or something? I can't remember the name of it.. but it's an all inclusive..
